Amazon Patents “Return-to-Sender” System

July 4, 2023 by noemi

bad presentChristmas is the time to give, but some people have a knack for giving inappropriate gifts. Inappropriate may be a relative label, but we know just how many people return unwanted Christmas gifts. We also know that this period after Christmas is the busiest time of the year for retailers when it comes to returning/exchanging items that are unwanted.

Now, personally, I don’t believe in returning gifts. I am a firm believer in the thought being more important than the actual gift, but apparently, not everyone thinks the same way; and due to this, shops such as Amazon have to deal with tons of requests after Christmas. In order to avoid this, the online superstore has reportedly come up with a system – patented, of course – that will avoid people having to return gifts (and Amazon having to deal with the issues).

The idea is simple: users can label people who have a knack for sending “bad” gifts. If these people send the user gifts, Amazon takes care of the “problem” even before it crops up. It does so by NOT sending the gift at all. More so, users will have options to customize the parameters as to what is a “bad” gift. For example, keywords such as “Hello Kitty” can be used – anything with this tag will not be sent to the user.

Now how do you deal with the sender who might get offended? It seems that Amazon has thought about this as well – users still know that they have “received” a gift and can thank the sender, without the latter knowing that the gift has not been delivered. (With everyone knowing about the system, though, wouldn’t paranoia just make things worse?)

I say it’s a nifty idea, technically, but poses a whole lot of potential complications (relationship-wise) that it simply isn’t worth it. If this thing pushes through, however, the face of online shopping might just change.

Boutiques.com: Where Fashionista and Nerd Collide

June 28, 2023 by noemi

Nerds are not exactly known for being fashionable, are they? Then again, thinking about the recent trend featuring geeky t-shirts and all the merchandise that the Nerd Herd is selling, that statement may not be 100 per cent accurate. Still, fashionistas and nerds do not normally “go together” – I think we can all agree on that.

If there is one company that can break the boundaries, though, I think it is Google; and I think that most of you will agree. This is exactly what the Internet giant is doing with one of its newest projects: Boutiques.com. From the Official Google Blog:

“…a personalized shopping experience that lets you find and discover fashion goods, by creating your own curated boutique or through a collection of boutiques curated by taste-makers—celebrities, stylists, designers and fashion bloggers. Boutiques uses computer vision and machine learning technology to visually analyze your taste and match it to items you would like.”

It’s really a shopaholic’s dream come true. Take a look at the image below to give you an idea how you can search for items on the site. Search is Google’s main strength, and hey, they are putting it to good use with online shopping!

Filters, photos, visual searches, and iPad applications – this is where the Google brains come into the pictures. Some of the people who work there may not exactly care what they wear to work, but they surely can come up with one heck of a site that might very well change the face of online shopping.

With only a little over a month left before Christmas, you will certainly have a blast playing around at Boutiques.com!

Get Your Groceries From Amazon

May 31, 2023 by noemi

If you live in the United States, you’re probably thinking: “What the heck is she talking about?” Yes, indeed, Amazon has already been selling groceries and other food and drink items on their site for a while. What started out as an online bookstore has branched out a lot in the past years.

In the United Kingdom, however, the idea of Amazon selling groceries is quite a novel one. As a matter of fact, the online store just launched their groceries section in the UK this week. Watch out Asda, Sainsbury, and Tesco! Amazon seems to have been successful in most of their ventures, so there’s no saying what might happen to the grocery market in the UK with this launch.

The selection that Amazon is offering is quite impressive. They are carrying labels such as Ariel, Dolmio, Kraft, Carte Noir, Oreo, Purina One, and more. They also have an international section, as well as kosher, organic, and vegan items. It looks like they just might give the competition a run for their money – if not right now, in the near future.

Regarding deliveries, consumers may opt for the regular delivery options or pay ?49 for an annual membership. Paying for this membership gives unlimited one-day delivery.

This kind of service is definitely going to be more popular in the near future, and it is just another indication of how technology is becoming a staple part of our lives. I wouldn’t mind doing my grocery and book shopping in one go, would you?

November 23, 2016 by Fleur Hamilton

online-shopping

These days shopping online has become so convenient and popular that studies show 75% of Americans count on it as their go-to for purchasing products before going to a store. Not only is it more convenient to shop online, but in many cases, it is significantly cheaper.

With this great convenience and savings, however, also comes the risk of your private information being stolen from you. Giving out your address and payment information makes you a target for cyber criminals. [Read more…] about Tips For Shopping Online Safely

The ForeverGeek Kickstarter Store Makes It Easy for Online Shoppers

November 13, 2013 by noemi

Online shopping is the best thing since sliced bread!

Not only do you get to find everything and anything (which you may or may not need), but you don’t have to get out of your PJs to do some shopping. A couple of clicks are all you need, and you’re good to go!
ForeverGeek Kickstarter Store
If you’re an online shopping enthusiast like me, then you probably already have sniffed out Kickstarter as a source of cool stuff. While it’s technically a crowdfunding site, Kickstarter does offer the online shopper a lot of options. It goes one step further by giving you the opportunity to be “in” at the earliest stages: by being a backer and getting earlybird perks.

One thing about Kickstarter, though, is that you never know if a project is going to get funded. Frustration can kick in if a project that you really want to happen does not reach its goals.

Our sister site, ForeverGeek, has come up with something that can somehow help alleviate that frustration: the ForeverGeek Kickstarter Store. [Read more…] about The ForeverGeek Kickstarter Store Makes It Easy for Online Shoppers
