The Perils of Multitasking

August 16, 2012 by noemi

Multitasking

Ahh, multitasking. One word (albeit a compound one) that can generate a wide variety of emotions. I know a good number of people who will celebrate the fact that they are able to multitask. Effectively, mind you.

In fact, I used to be one of them. I was rather fond of saying that I could do several tasks at the same time and not have my work suffer because of it. Some years down the road, however, I realize that I might have been wrong in my thinking.

Maybe it’s because of having gained some years. Or maybe I was just too caught up in the idea that multitasking is effective. The fact remains that today, I cannot say with all certainty that multitasking is the way to go.

And you know what? I am not alone in this. It’s not the first time I have read about multitasking not being good for the brain, but here’s another piece that might get you thinking as well: The Perils of Multitasking.

Will the Sky Fall or Rise for James Bond in the 23rd Installment?

August 16, 2012 by DailyBits

With the 23rd James Bond film on our horizons, I wonder just how it would fare this time around.  The new title just made me think on whether this latest James Bond installment will make the sky fall or rise at least for the movie-going audience.  James Bond is the longest running film series initially based on Ian Fleming’s novels.  Later films however used original story lines including the much anticipated Skyfall.

All James Bond movies elicit much excitement and interest primarily because of its established reputation as an action-packed movie displaying the latest gadgets and the most beautiful women.  The making of the first James Bond movie did not come easy having to go through several failed negotiations.  The concept was initially seen as being too British for the American audience. Call Parade Phone Booths Liven Up the Streets of São Paulo

Call Parade Phone Booths
There may be no phone booth more iconic than the blue police call box we all know as the TARDIS, but there is no reason to try and remake phone booths into things that are more interesting than your run-of-the-mill box, is there?

I am not sure if phone booths still exist in all cities of the world, but I am pretty sure that there is still at least one in your area. It may not work. It may look totally worn down. But there should be at least one in the vicinity.

But if you live in the city of São Paulo in Brazil, you will have more than one phone booth. And you will definitely take more than a second look at them. That is, if they are part of the Call Parade phone booths project.

Tax season is never welcome. Well, maybe if you are a tax attorney or an accountant, you will welcome the season. But we all know that there is getting around taxes. There is reason for the popularity of that clichè about taxes and death, after all.

Meet The Zeno Boy Robot

Zeno Boy Robot
Zeno Boy Robot

Depending on your age, you might be able to relate when I say I have been reminiscing and thinking a little about The Jetsons and Small Wonder. While I did not watch TV regularly as a kid, these two shows were very popular during that period, and every kid I knew was fascinated with them, probably because of the robots.

Several decades later, we’re still not close to having a robot-person like Vicki (see Small Wonder!), but we just might have something a step closer in the Zeno Boy Robot. [Read more…] about Meet The Zeno Boy Robot

“This Is Now!” Is a Beautiful Time Waster

This Is Now
This Is Now

The Internet has been called many things, but I am sure that “ultimate time waster” will be at the top of the most frequently used adjectives for this wonderful thing that can make anyone an expert with some clicking and a few hours of reading. Then again, what is wasted time for one person may very well be a brilliant learning experience for another. It’s all in the perspective, yes?

And if you are the type who believes that experiencing beauty is a worthwhile experience no matter what, you will not mind wasting your time on “This Is Now”, a web site that jumps into the Instagram bandwagon, but in a way that goes beyond what others have done.
