Obsessed About Your Biological Clock? There Is an App for That!

June 29, 2012 by noemi

The Wonder Clock App
The Wonder Clock App

I am not kidding, and if you know a woman who has very strong urges about passing on her genes to the next generation, you would also know that the ticking biological clock is not a joking matter. In fact, I am sure that studies have been made about just how this fixation on the biological clock has gotten a lot of women down.

Not that I am one of them, but just in case you are, or you know someone who is, then here is an iOS app that might just help. Or maybe not, I don’t really know.

In any case, let me introduce you to the Wonder Clock, an app that was specially designed to count down a woman’s biological clock in real time. [Read more…] about Obsessed About Your Biological Clock? There Is an App for That!

Google Nexus 7

Or not. It depends on how you see things, of course, but it looks like Google is not going to leave the tablet market alone.

During the Google I/O conference held in San Francisco yesterday, the tech giant showed proof that it has something to say when it comes to tablet computers. While it may not be taking on the iPad (smart!), it certainly seems to be saying something to Kindle. [Read more…] about Google’s Nexus 7 to Challenge Kindle Fire

LEGO. There’s just something about those blocks that capture the hearts and imaginations of young and old alike. And of course, when young kids in love with LEGO grow up to be adults, they do not forget. They merely turn into Adult Fans of LEGO.

Who can blame them?

Then there are LEGO minifigs, which transform “normal” creatures into blockheads that one simply cannot fail to enjoy. How many LEGO minifigs do you know about? How many do you own?

I just had a blast looking at the 21 greatest LEGO minifigs according to Topless Robot. And yes, I didn’t know about many of them. [Read more…] about Awesome LEGO Minifigs You Might Not Know About

What I Remember About Dinosaurs: A Kickstarter Project

What I Remember About Dinosaurs
What I Remember About Dinosaurs Cover Mockup

What do you remember about dinosaurs?

I am not sure if the strong interest in dinosaurs is a matter of generation, but I clearly remember – when we were kids – that it was cool to be able to rattle off the names of dinosaurs like a Gatling gun in action. Not to mention the ability to follow up with all their characteristics and spot them from a mile away. If dinosaurs ever visited the school, that is.

Whether you were one of those kids or not, I still think teaching kids about these leviathans is a worthwhile venture. Non-existent they may be today, they are still very much part of our history.

Google Sets Out to Save Languages Via the Endangered Languages Project

June 25, 2012 by noemi

Endangered Languages Project

Did you know that a lot of languages die every day? That may not be one of the things you consider on a regular basis, but the fact is that languages stand for more than what people speak. They are part of people’s cultures, and the death of a language may also mean the death of a culture.

Google, the Internet giant that you either hate or love, seems to see the importance of languages – all 7,000 that are spoken worldwide today. Via its philanthropic branch, Google.org, the company is collaborating with other organizations such as the First Peoples’ Cultural Council and the Institute for Language Information and Technology (Eastern Michigan University). The goal? To help preserve languages. [Read more…] about Google Sets Out to Save Languages Via the Endangered Languages Project

How attached are you to your gadgets? Which gadget/s do you always – and I mean always – have with you?

While it used to be that certain gadgets were limited to those who absolutely needed them (read: beepers for doctors, if you even still remember those devices), today, we know that gadgets are as ubiquitous as clothing. That in itself is not necessarily a negative thing, but if we analyze the degree of attachment to gadgets, we may find out some surprising – or not-so-suprising – things.

Intel recently conducted a study of 2,500 American adults, with the goal of determining the effects of being detached from their gadgets for a period of time. [Read more…] about Technology Withdrawal = Adults Act Like Babies
