Firefox OS
Firefox OS

The entry of Mozilla into the mobile phone market is something that everyone is looking forward to, presumably especially those who use Mozilla Firefox as their main browser. The browser wars is an ongoing battle, and with this move, Mozilla is making sure it is not  limited to the tool used to access web sites.

As was expected, major announcements and unveilings were done at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona over the weekend, with the first smartphones running on Firefox OS being some of the highlights. The rumor mill has been busy, and we’ve known for a while about ZTE and Alcatel working on something based on Firefox OS, but it is only now that we have something solid – two things actually: the ZTE Open and the Alcatel One Touch Fire. Bendy Phones
Samsung Bendy Phones

It’s technically called flexible display technology, but saying “bendy phones” is so much more fun, isn’t it?

I don’t have many complaints about my iPhone, but there is something totally appealing about a phone that can bend, twist, and turn in practically any direction without worrying about it not functioning anymore. Put your phone in your jeans pocket or in your bag, and even if you accidentally sit on it, it should accept a reasonable degree of stress.

That’s what bendy phones are all about, and it looks like we might see them in the near future! [Read more…] about Bendy Phones Possibly Coming Out in 2013!

World's Cheapest Tablet
Aakash 2

Earlier this year, we got wind of the Aakash, which was touted as the world’s cheapest tablet. Made by DataWind, a firm based in the UK, Aakash was specially tailored to fit the needs of students who do not have the means to purchase the more expensive and rather popular tablets. Back then, the aim was to sell the Aakash at around USD35. The tablet was launched, and the reception was rather poor for various reasons.

DataWind – and the Indian government – was not about to give up on their initial intentions, however. This month, they launch the successor of the world’s cheapest tablet: the Aakash 2. [Read more…] about DataWind Launches Aakash 2, The World’s (Almost) Cheapest Tablet

Classic mobile phones
Old Mobile Phones

Mobile phones have become essential devices for everyone today, but do you remember the times when only a select few were able to afford their own cell phones? Those old phones were huge and clunky, especially judging by today’s standards. They were not the prettiest, but they did what phones were supposed to do: make calls. The “newer” ones had the capability to send text messages, and some were even able to browse the Internet – mostly text only – but they sure did have long life spans.

Kids today probably wouldn’t touch those phones with a 12-foot pole, but those of us who grew up yearning after those phones have a soft spot for them. Take a brief walk down memory lane with these 5 classic mobile phones.
