Nintendo has announced a new handheld gaming device, the 2DS, which will retail for $129.99. The 2DS disposes of the stereoscopic 3D that marked its more expensive predecessor, the 3DS, along with the clamshell design that defined previous Nintendo…
The graphics of today’s video games have improved so much that I can’t help but be mesmerized even when I am a mere observer most of the time. I am thinking about games such as Skyrim, where the level of details is simply astounding. Even with all the advances made, though, there is still some room for improvement.
If you think about it, there video game avatars do not exactly have real facial expressions. While their expressions do change, there is still some way to go in this regard.
This is what Thibaut Weise of EPFL’s Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory has been working on. His idea is very simple: to enable avatars to reflect the facial expressions of their real life users in real time.
I haven’t been on extremely long flights, but even on flights that take three or four hours long, I get fidgety unless I fall asleep. Lucky for me, my body seems to take a moving vehicle as a signal for sleep most of the time. If all else fails, there is the iPad which keeps me busy for the duration of the flight.
If you are going on a trip soon, and you are preparing yourself for hours on the plane, here are some iPad games that have proven to be entertaining. Download them before you go. You won’t regret it!
Every time I write something about awesome iPad games, Flight Control makes it to the list. It is that awesome. The premise is to route and reroute planes so that you can land all of them safely. It is a bit weird to play this game while you’re 30,000 feet above ground, but you’ll certainly not feel the time pass.
It is hard to beat the adrenaline rush that one gets from racing cars. Even if it’s only a virtual experience. Heck, even a vicarious racing experience is enough to get one’s blood pumping till you think your heart will burst with the excitement!
If you have a need for that rush that one can derive only from racing, then take a look at these 7 of the best driving games ever. (In no particular order, mind you.)
The world of gaming has always been the perfect escape for children of all ages. As a little kid, I remember day dreaming that I was Mario, able to jump and get stars to overcome whatever came my way. I’m a little older now, and Super Mario has turned into games such as God of War, Split Second, and Amalur (when time permits). Still, those few hours of playing games provide much needed respite from the daily grind.
Kids today would probably only think of the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii when the subject of gaming consoles come up. Those of us who are a little more advanced in years will certainly tell kids that they are lucky to have these consoles, for, back in the day, while there were awesome devices, there were also a fair amount of really, really bad ones.
And, just for fun – and to add to our appreciation of the onsoles we have today – here are some of the worst gaming consoles ever made.
