Game of Thrones Theme on Eight Floppy Drives

May 17, 2012 by noemi

Game of Thrones
HBO's Game of Thrones

When HBO’s Game of Thrones was first announced, die hard fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire were torn into two camps. On the one hand, we had some people who were really excited about the series getting out there and that more people would be able to appreciate the wonderful work of this writer.

On the other hand, there were some who were apprehensive about the very same fact. The reason, however, was that there might be a lot of people just joining the TV series bandwagon without truly appreciating the books.

Who cares at this point? Both books and TV series are at a level of awesomeness that no one can overlook! [Read more…] about Game of Thrones Theme on Eight Floppy Drives

Pretty Soon, You Can 3D Print Your Own Guitar

Spider Guitar - 3D Printed
Are you one of those who get mesmerized by an awesome-looking guitar in the hands of a talented musician? I sure am, and I cannot count the times that I have (almost) drooled over a really good guitar. Not that I can really play well, but a beautiful guitar (that sounds good as well) is something that I always appreciate.

If you are the same way, then you will like the idea of the Spider Guitar, which is a 3D printed guitar. The idea is “owned” by Olaf Diegel, a mechatronics professor at Massey University. What a mechatronics professor does exactly – don’t ask me! ((Wikipedia on mechatronics))

Diegel used to only dream about his 3D printed guitars, but thanks to the development of 3D printers – and the fact that his school is fortunate enough to have several desktop 3D printers – the professor was able to create real guitars, albeit rather small. The limitation, obviously, is the size of the printers. However, Diegel is already looking forward to the possibility of the school having a large-scale printer before the year ends. Dry Cleaner Music: Creativity in Music

Diego Stocco Music
Diego Stocco's Dry Cleaner Music

One of the best lines I have heard from a song is “music is my aeroplane“. No doubt you also know what that song is, and I don’t know about you, but I think that line is just brilliant. The importance of music in life cannot be emphasized enough, and I can’t help feeling sorry for those who cannot appreciate it.

In any case, we all have our tastes in music, and one cannot – and should not – judge others because of this. And whatever kind of music may get you going, I think that you will appreciate what sound artist and composer Diego Stocco has created: dry cleaner music. London Philharmonic Orchestra Does Angry Birds

Angry Birds
Angry Birds

Angry Birds has gotten old for a lot of people, but tell that to my little nephews who forget all their worries when they hear the Angry Birds theme playing on the iPad. They may not be able to play the game yet, but the mere sound of the music makes them happy. Would that adults be as simple!

Whether or not you are still enticed by the idea of playing what might very well be one of the most successful mobile games, I think that it is hard to deny that the playful theme music is quite irresistible. So irresistible that even the famed London Philharmonic Orchestra decided to play around with the music and give it their own special treatment. Little Drummer Boy Brought to You by a Robot and a Scanner

Little Drummer Boy Robots
Little Drummer Boy

Nope. You won’t see the little drummer boy that you are used to seeing around this time of the year in that picture. You know how some technophobes (and even technophiles) say that people will one day be replaced by machines? Well, this is a great example of how that is totally possible.

YouTube user bd594 apparently had some time on his hands, so he decided to tinker around with an HP scanner – the flatbed kind, obviously, a snare drum, and some other electronic items. His masterpiece? A two-gadget band rendering its own version of the Little Drummer Boy. Yes, that ubiquitous piece of Christmas music that I am pretty sure you have gotten enough of by this time. Pink Floyd and Sting Biography Apps

Sting Bio App
Sting Biography App

There are days when I am on an app rampage and start my day by looking at what can be downloaded for free or for a small fee. Occasionally, I come across a relatively pricey app that I might still consider getting just because I think it’s worth it. Some things I haven’t really paid much attention to, though, are apps from artists that I like.

Today, I had a pleasant surprise while browsing TUAW ((TUAW)). Two of the artists I never hesitate to listen to have released biography apps! News about Pink Floyd and Sting biography apps – how’s that to make one’s day? [Read more…] about Pink Floyd and Sting Biography Apps
