Have you ever had the problem of having to balance your mobile phone when you had too many things in your hand? With all the gadgets lug around these days, I suppose that that isn’t such an uncommon situation. I cannot even count the number of times that I’ve had to juggle stuff when my phone rings and I am out in the mall or somewhere else. That’s exactly what Trevor Prideaux wanted, and he got it, too. The British guy’s situation is rather different and unique, though. He was born without his left arm and has had to live his life in this condition. He did, however, get a prosthetic arm. A lot of people were initially disappointed when Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5 last October 4. Personally, I think all that disappointment could have been avoided if people reigned in the rumor talks prior to the launch. There were literally dozens of new rumors being spread all over the web each day as October 4 drew closer–and while Apple could’ve issued a little press release to cut down the chatter just a little bit, they didn’t, in true Apple fashion. (But if you think about it, more rumors probably would’ve surfaced had they said something, so maybe it was a no-win situation then.)

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Iris is an anagram for Siri, the much talked about personal assistant that comes with the iPhone 4S. We’ve all heard and read about the things that Siri says, and everyone seems to be jumping into the bandwagon. Even those who are not really iPhone fans. Or maybe especially those who are not – except they jump into the anti-Siri bandwagon.
And as was to be expected, Android developers have not taken the release of Siri without wanting to show what they can do as well. So you’re a pi lover, and you do not want to have anything to do with Tau Day, the proponents of which say that pi is wrong. The tau guys have gotten quite some attention, and I am pretty sure they have had new converts in the past year, but if you are not one of them, you will be impressed at the feat of two guys: Alexander Yee and Shigeru Kondo.
Alexander is computer scientist in the United States and Shigeru is a systems engineer in Japan. The two have put their heads – and resources – together to break the record in calculating the digits of pi. My initial reaction was akin to saying “What a waste of time!” After all, it is a task that will never end.
