ACTASOPA has been the talk of the town in the recent weeks, although the noise has died down a bit when the legislation was shot down. But are you aware of another piece of legislation that may affect you in an adverse way?

It is called ACTA, which is short for Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. It is an international agreement with the following entities as participants: ((via Stop Acta))

No SOPA Chrome Extension
No SOPA Chrome Extension

We’ve been hearing about the Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, for some time now. Whether or not you have been following the developments and arguments about it, there is no going around the fact that if this act does get passed, our lives will change. Well, unless you do not really use the Internet all that much. (As unthinkable as that may be, there ARE people who do not see the Internet as their life.)

Also known as H.R. 3261, this bill was introduced in October by Representative Lamar Smith, in cooperation with 12 other co-sponsors. December 22, 2011 by DailyBits

This marketing strategy works with food, makeup and your Twitter account: packaging is everything.  The typical Twitter page is, in a word, boring and generic—the equivalent of a white plastic bag. But with instabg.com, you can decorate your Twitter page with any photo you upload in Instagram.

So how does that attract followers? The InstaBG background immediately makes your Twitter page look different. You personalize your page, instantly communicating your interests, your personality, or (if it’s a professional Twitter account) your subject, topic, brand, or company. Without even reading any of your Tweets, your readers can immediately guess what they can expect from you. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, or a thousand Tweets. xxx domains
The hullaballoo about .xxx domains has been going on for quite some time, and it probably is not going away unless the majority of Earth’s inhabitants change their perspectives. That is not to say never, but being realistic means that there will probably be a stigma or controversy (or whatever you want to call it) associated with this domain extension.

With the upcoming launch of new top level domains with the .xxx extension, web site owners are going on the offensive to make sure that their names or trademarks are not snapped up by others who would want the .xxx extension linked to that name. Even though the top level domains have not been launched yet, we are at what they call the “sunrise phase”, which is the stage wherein those who own trademarks are given the opportunity to reserve trademark.xxx.
