September 24, 2012 by noemi

LEGO Raspberry Pi Supercomputer
LEGO Raspberry Pi Supercomputer

When news of the Raspberry Pi first came out, hope bloomed in the hearts of real computer enthusiasts. When I say real, I mean those who actually do not mind getting their hands dirty digging into the guts of devices and doing mods here and there. Old school computer tinkering. Creativity and technology coming together in a beautiful blend.

Here’s something more beautiful than that, though: LEGO and Raspberry Pi used in conjunction with each other to create a supercomputer.

If that didn’t make your jaw drop and your mind explode with possibilities, I don’t know what will! [Read more…] about How to Build a Supercomputer Using LEGO and Raspberry Pi

Walking Dead TV Series 2 Action Figures
Rick Grimes

Who’s missing The Walking Dead? I know I am! Just the other night, I dreamt that I was battling zombies with long sharp machetes and swords that had some magic powers as well. I don’t know if that was a missing The Walking Dead sign, but yeah, October 14 cannot come soon enough. ((I guess it doesn’t help that my housemate has thing for knives, and that we have a really nice machete above the front door.))

If you are feeling just as bereft, and you like collecting action figures, then you’ll love the fact that McFarlane Toys and AMC have announced The Walking Dead TV Series 2 action figures. Up there we have Rick Grimes, whom you either hate or love – with a passion. But, is it just me or is it hard to see the resemblance in the facial features?

Do You Have the Chops to Solve the World’s Largest Maze?

September 20, 2012 by noemi

Joe Wos

There are puzzles, and there are puzzles. Then there is Joe Wos’s puzzle that will puzzle even the most experienced and skilled of puzzle solvers in the world.

Mr. Wos is the director of ToonSeum, a cartoon museum in Portland. Not only does he manage the place, he also founded it himself. He has been doodling since he was a kid, and he has made a fairly solid reputation as a maze maker. In fact, some of his colleagues have solved his mazes in the past.

His latest – and largest – creation is proving to be a challenge from the get go, however. There are no takers as of yet. Even those who have tried Wos’s mazes in the past. [Read more…] about Do You Have the Chops to Solve the World’s Largest Maze?

Virtual Keyboard
Virtual Keyboard

…or like a fool, depending on how it actually performs in real life.

Actually, when I first heard of the virtual keyboard, I was rather excited. I was thinking about Tony Stark’s awesome set up. Scenes from The Minority Report came to mind. It is something that I have been dreaming of for a while.

The realist in me says that we are not going to have this kind of technology in the short-term, but it is very much possible to enjoy it in our lifetime. Then again, this virtual keyboard from Brookstone may be the beginning. [Read more…] about This Virtual Laser Keyboard Will Make You Look Cool

Data on Data [Star Trek Alert!]

Data on Data
What was the first storage device you ever used? I guess the most accurate answer for me would be the 5 1/4 floppy disk. If you’re really young, you probably have no idea what I’m talking about, but Google it. It will do you some good.

Anyhow, data storage has always been a big thing, even when the Internet was totally different from how he know it today. From the punch cards and magnetic tapes of the old days, we now have USB sticks of all shapes and sizes, not to mention cloud storage.

And of course, what more humorous way to take a look at all these types of data storage than to inject a little bit of Star Trek into the scenario?

Enter Data on Data.
