There are days when I am on an app rampage and start my day by looking at what can be downloaded for free or for a small fee. Occasionally, I come across a relatively pricey app that I might still consider getting just because I think it’s worth it. Some things I haven’t really paid much attention to, though, are apps from artists that I like.

vlock: Clock With Videos and Social Networking

The iPhone has a pretty good clock, and it suits me just fine for most things. One thing I can say about it, though, is that it simply does what a clock is supposed to do. Now if you want a clock app that gives you a little eye candy and some, you might want to check out a new app on the App Store: vlock.

With the tag line that “it might just be the most beautiful clock on a phone”, one can’t help but get interested, yes? It works with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. vlock is all about background videos that are totally mesmerizing. For some reason, I am reminded of the visual effects that are used for music players. Yes, I have found myself simply staring at them for longer than is necessary. White House Announces Winners of the Apps Against Abuse Technology Challenge

Just recently, we heard about the “I’m Getting Arrested App“, which can help people who are getting arrested inform relevant people of their situation. While it is not meant solely for those actively involved in the Occupy Movement, it is definitely one of the more popular applications.

Early this week, the White House made an announcement along similar lines. No, it’s not about the Occupy Movement, but about apps that have the potential to be of very good use. The apps are the result of a technology challenge issued by the White House, which called on software innovators to come up with apps that can be used to battle sexual abuse and dating violence. VoiceMan – Real Time Voice Minute Manager

So how are you doing with your iPhone? It may not be the most used phone in the entire world, but it is arguably the most desired phone, thanks to the magic that Steve Jobs has wrought. And speaking of Steve Jobs, did you remember Dress Up Like Steve Jobs Day on Friday? While a long-sleeve black turtleneck seems appropriate for the weather today (at least in my neck of the woods), I didn’t have time to go out and get one, so I had to be satisfied playing with my iPhone and downloading an app that might just make us some savings.

The app is called VoiceMan, and it seems to me that it has a lot of potential to help you monitor just how much your voice calls cost you. With the iPhone, you can do practically everything and more often than not, it is the data usage that gets people in trouble. At least that’s the prevailing idea. Hence, people do pay a lot of attention to their data usage, sometimes at the cost of forgetting about the voice calls. (Of course, if you have unlimited plans, this is not a problem.
