Orange launches People Projects Facebook app for willing volunteers

April 12, 2023 by Andy Merrett

It seems every large corporate has to do something on Facebook these days, with UK mobile operator Orange deciding to launch its People Projects app that encourages people to become part of local community volunteer initiatives.

It’s not the only community-focused web site doing the rounds, but the fact that it’s integrated with Facebook rather than sitting on the Internet on its own may mean that it gets picked up and used by Facebookers, who are often accused of being armchair campaigners and protesters.

Maybe this will encourage them to get off their butts and actually join in with something in the real world.

If altruism isn’t quite enough, once you’ve contacted the project owners and volunteered, you can tell everyone how wonderful you are.

Of course it needs people who are running community projects to set them up in the app in the first place. Tools provided include a dedicated project page, promotional tools, virtual rewards for volunteers, task list, events tool and a timeline for keeping goals on track.

Orange will also highlight up to eight inspiring projects on its own People Projects website. Orange plans to launch a mobile version of the app in due course.

Just recently, Facebook has passed the 300 million user mark.  This is already a remarkable feat for a social networking site which started as a college project in some university, right? Facebook Groups Finally Gets a Special Treatment

April 4, 2023 by Arnold Zafra

Facebook has finally noticed that aside from the Fan pages, it still has another facility for Facebook members to work together, collaborate and communicate – the Facebook Groups. For quite sometime now, Facebook groups has been neglected in the sideline as Facebook put more emphasis into promoting Facebook pages. Well, this is understable since it is the mostly used facility for companies to get their brands on Facebook. But now Facebook is finally improving the Groups functionality. 3 Reasons Why Facebook Lite Will Not Be Used by its Intended Users

March 30, 2023 by Arnold Zafra

I guess by now you’ve probably checked out the new Lite version of Facebook which was announced a couple of hours ago.  Facebook went live in the U.S. and India first but a couple of hours later it went live to other countries as well. Facebook’s reason for coming up with Facebook Lite? To give users in countries where Internet connection is not at par with advanced countries a chance to enjoy Facebook without getting annoyed by the slow loading of Facebook.com. But, will the supposed “target user” of Facebook Lite actually use it? I could name 5 reasons why  it won’t be really used by these users.
