The Rise of the Mobile Superhero

November 1, 2012 by noemi Leave a Comment

Every human culture has a fascination with superheroes. Sure, some culture’s superheroes may take on forms that are quite dissimilar to Superman, Batman, and Iron Man. Still, the idea of having someone to look up to for one reason or another is not unique to any group of people.

There might be a new breed of superheroes coming up, though, if the guys at Unisys are to be taken seriously. Unisys ((Unisys)) is an information technology company offering its services worldwide. They “specialize in helping clients secure their operations, increase the efficiency and utilization of their data centers, enhance support to their end users and constituents, and modernize their enterprise applications.”

That being said, they commissioned a survey that took into account the habits of employees around the world in relation to mobile devices. The survey involved more than 590 companies worldwide, with the results pointing to the modern workplace superhero: MobileMan.

Assuming you can overlook the ridiculous monicker, there are some interesting points that can be gleaned from the study, the results of which have been neatly summed up in the infographic below.

The Mobile Elite
That’s another label used in the graphic. I have an intrinsic aversion to anything labeled “elite”, but here are some figures about the mobile elite, or the mobile superhero.

  • 83% more likely to work while traveling or commuting
  • 80% more likely to work at customer site
  • More likely to use personal apps to communicate with customers
  • 62% more likely to use public social networks
  • Consider smartphones to be their most critical working device
  • Spend their own money to buy things, such as personal technology, to do their jobs

There’s more to it than those points, but do you already see yourself as part of the mobile superhero group?
