Google Will Give Prizes to Best Orkut Applications in Brazil

It is no secret that Brazil is the most important location for Google’s social networking site Orkut. Now, as part of the OpenSocial initiative, Google will be giving prizes to the best developers of Orkut applications.

The contest to select the best applications will fist work with concepts, and the best ones will go to development. Once released, Google will monitor the number of users using each application, and the three most popular ones will win $4000, $2500 and $1000 roughly.

On May Sao Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil, will also be hosting the first OpenSocial enterprise event in South America, so this could be a strategy by Google to raise the overall awareness around the project.
